Telluride is right at the end of the road. As you drive up the valley the walls of the box canyon seem to get higher and higher. In some ways it reminds you of Austria with towering mountains rising straight out of the deep narrow valleys but this is not Austria! lift attendants are friendly, the grooming is perfect and the snow is light and fluffy. There are even people in cowboy hats. You may catch sight of some of the movie stars and super models that make this old mining town home in the winter.
The skiing is as good as you'll get and the grooming staff here have a wonderful way of grooming one side of the trails and leaving the other side to "bump up" into tantalising moguls. If you get tired, or bungle a turn, there's an easy escape onto the flat side. Perfect for those times when one of you wants to cruise and the other needs the exercise, no need to ski separate runs and miss out on each other's company.
The town is just like you'd imagine a wild west mining town, with old saloons and colourful wooden buildings in the side streets.
