The We-Ko-Pa Golf Club

Open since December 14, 2001, We-Ko-Pa Golf Club is the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation's stunning new golf course. Featuring an authentic tribute to the local Yavapai tribe, We-Ko-Pa Golf Club pays homage to the original dwellers of the land.

Located in Fountain Hills, on the east edge of Scottsdale, We-Ko-Pa (the Yavapai pronunciation for "Four Peaks Mountain") presents a unique alternative to the already upscale Scottsdale golf market. Designed by noted golf course architect Scott Miller, the golf course was created to play a challenging 7,225 yards from the back tees, but with multiple tee boxes that are well spaced to cater to players of all calibers. In addition, there are no - nor will there ever be residences on the golf course, yielding some of the most dramatic and "natural" views of the surrounding mountain ranges including the Four Peaks, McDowell Mountains, Red Mountains and the Superstitions.

Another distinguishing factor of the golf course is the ample amount of natural mesquite, palo verde, saguaros, shrubbery and desert vegetation that sprawl through the arroyos and canyons of We-Ko-Pa, creating a lush desert feel.

The abscence of any real-estate makes We-Ko-Pa one of the most pristine desert golf courses in Arizona. The course ovelooks the Verde River valley, Red Mountain, the Superstition Mountains and the Four Peaks Mountain or We-Ko-Pa as the Yavapai Indians know it. Four sets of tees give a yardage of between 5,334 to 7,225 from the Professional tees. The Regular tees give a yardage of 6,644 yards. The course design is masterful giving accent to the modern game. The fairways, bunkers and greenside berms are contoured enough, to make the course a real challenge. The essence of the course is always changing and is at once chalenging and then rewarding enough to give your game a lift. Number 18 has a split fairway and alluring sand and water obstacles to give you food for thought.

The We-Ko-Pa Clubhouse

Inspired by the Yavapai culture, the We-Ko-Pa clubhouse features a "desert vernacular" styling with unique detail contributions that draw inspiration from the natural environment. Sloped entry walls and a wood beam canopy create a canyon-like feel entryway, followed by a water and fire feature that is designed to symbolize the importance of woven baskets within the Yavapai culture. The clubhouse is replete with stylized detailing and yields spectacular views of the McDowell Mountains, Red Mountain, Four Peaks and the Superstitions.
The above ground portion of the clubhouse offers 10,000 sq. ft. of enclosed space split into two separate areas, one on each side of the main patio. The north side of the building contains the golf shop retail and administrative areas along with restrooms and lounge areas. The south side contains the dining areas, kitchen, support offices, a bar and large multi-use room. Both ends of the building are complimented with large open patios.

The lower level of the clubhouse includes an 11,000 sq. ft. underground cart storage area. t he veranda gives superb panoramas of the Sonora Desert and all its rugged beauty.
